Waterfalls

With more than 10 waterfalls within 10 kilometres of Lorne, there are plenty of amazing natural wonders to discover. 

Waterfalls include Erskine Falls, Henderson Falls, Phantom Falls, Upper and Lower Kalimna Falls, Sheoak Falls with Swallow Cave and the Cora Lynn Cascades. For the endless waterfall chasers, there are beautiful cascades all around the region to explore, so get chasing with our waterfalls guide. 

Art & Culture

If the arts is your thing, you'll feel quite at home with Lorne, which boasts a spirited arts community. Lorne is home to the long celebrated Falls Music Festival and Lorne Festival of The Performing Arts. Pop into Qdos Arts to check out constantly changing exhibits and outdoor sculpture park, or visit in March for the Lorne Sculpture Biennale, when up to 40 works are exhibited along the foreshore. 

Beaches

Main Beach Lorne is the only patrolled beach during the summer season. Other beaches in North Lorne and Shelly Beach have rock shelves and therefore may not be suitable for inexperienced swimmers. Read more

Teddy’s Lookout

With views of Bass Straight and the Great Ocean Road, Teddy's Lookout is a view not to be missed. And around the corner, you will find stunning waterfalls like the mesmerising Erskine Falls.

Walks

Popular walks are from the Sheoak Picnic Ground, along the St George River, Erskine River, Sheoak River, Lemonade Creek and the Cumberland River. Foreshore and historical walks include The Tramways Track, Shipwreck Plaque Walk, Stony Creek Walk and The Doug Stirling Walk. Read more

From Melbourne, follow the M1 to Geelong and then take the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. This will take just under 2 hours, however, allow a little extra time to stop along the way as there are plenty of opportunities to admire the breathtaking views. You can save a bit of time by travelling inland from Geelong to Winchelsea and then taking the C151 to Lorne, however, this is nowhere near as picturesque or iconic as the Great Ocean Road.

Geelong is only 19 km from Avalon Airport, and only a $30 taxi fare. There are also bus services from Avalon Airport to Geelong that operate in line with flight arrivals.

If you are wanting to take public transport to Lorne, there is a Vline train that runs from Melbourne to Geelong. Trains depart from Southern Cross Station and there is a train at least every hour, and takes just under an hour. From Geelong train station you can take a bus to Lorne. The buses are operated by Vline and there are about 4 services a day, with more in summer. The trip from Geelong to Lorne will take an hour and a half. The combined fare from Melbourne to Lorne is $19.40. You will be dropped off at the Lorne Pub.

Once in Lorne there is no public transport, only a taxi service, so if you choose to arrive by public transport it may be best to stay in the heart of Lorne for easy access to the beaches and cafes.
